The creation of this forum initially came about as the result of one of our members' blogs getting spammed. I will not mention names, nor link to that blog here. I don't consider it my right to do so. I leave it up to the discretion of that individual, whose wishes will be honored regardless of the decision made.
As stated in my intro, my family is new to both Arkansas and Fulton County. I'm not one for mincing words. Of course relocating a family 1300 miles is seldom hassle-free. Numerous adjustments, accomodations, and sacrifices were made. For the most part, the genuine benefits of living here far outweigh the overly abundant conveniences- and stresses- of densely populated regions.
My family has been befriended by some fantastic folks over the short time we've lived here. Sure, we still tend to stick out like a sore thumb at times, but it were these special people who opened up their hearts to us "outsiders." It was discovered that we share many of the same ideals, goals, and concerns. And we all agree that it doesn't matter if one was raised in a big city or in farm country- decent people help eachother.
Our new neighbors and friends have been quite wonderful where finding certain local resources is concerned. However, one fact of my family's life remains a significant challenge. One of our children is "special needs." We've found it quite difficult at times to get the information or special medical services he requires. Of course my husband and I didn't expect our neighbors to know if there's a decent pediatric neurologist in the region. That would've been too much to hope for. However, we were certainly surprised to find out that there isn't a physicians referal service for this area.
This got me wondering if other area newcomers had experienced similar headaches with trying to find important things. Where does one register to vote? Who handles local phone service? Is there a 24-hour laundromat or convenience store? Who responds to various 911 calls in unincorporated areas? Can I get trash pickup at my rural home or is there a municipal dump? So many questions. No online one-stop info resource. This needs to change. Welcome to the beginning of that change.
Creation of this forum revolves around change. Change is seen by some as a threat. The underlying reasons can be as different as each individual who avoids certain levels of change. This brings me back to the aforementioned member's blog. It focuses on issues which cannot be ignored if we citizens expect Fulton County, its cities and towns to operate in an impartial, accountable, and effective manner. There is a modern definition of insanity: repeating the same action over and over, yet always expecting a different result. It's time to ditch the insanity in favor of positive change.
You're still reading- thank you!!! Are you ready to dive in? If so, I kindly ask you begin by posting one issue you believe needs attention and at least one possible solution. Feel free to offer constructive comments or questions to others' issues/solutions. It's discussions such as these which lay the foundation to achieving realistic worthwhile goals.
